Steel cable, rock contact and mountain air - the via ferrata challenges your hands.

What for many is the ultimate mountain experience is a real test of endurance for the skin on your fingers. Anyone who regularly hangs over wire ropes or works their way past exposed rock ledges knows that without the right hand protection, a mountain tour can quickly turn into an unpleasant experience. This is precisely why we at Zanier have been developing gloves for decades that are specially tailored to the challenges on the mountain - together with the professionals from the Tyrolean Mountain Rescue Service and the Großglockner mountain guides.

Why via ferrata gloves are not an optional extra

On a via ferrata, your hands are the direct point of contact - you belay yourself, grip ropes, operate carabiners. And all this under frequently changing conditions.
The friction caused by wire ropes can quickly cause blisters or abrasions, especially on longer tours. And even if it's still sunny and 20 degrees at the start - the higher you get, the cooler it gets. Just a few hundred meters of altitude can make the difference between a comfortable grip and numb fingers. This is precisely why gloves are not a gimmick here, but part of your personal protective equipment.

Full-finger or half-finger - which is better?

Whether you prefer full-finger or half-finger models depends on your tours.
Half-finger gloves such as the ADRENALIN are ideal for short, easy climbs on warm days. They offer a good grip and pleasantly ventilate the hands, but deliberately do without complete protection on the fingertips. However, full-finger gloves are a much safer option for longer hikes or on exposed terrain. They protect the entire palm and all fingers - with every movement and every grip. We can particularly recommend our ROFAN full-finger glove. More information can be found below.

What you should look out for when buying

A good glove must be robust - especially on the palm. Materials such as Amara, goatskin or reinforced synthetic fibers protect against contact with steel cables or rough rock. At the same time, they need to be flexible: 4-way stretch materials ensure that the glove adapts to every movement. Silicone prints or non-slip surfaces provide the necessary grip. Models with snap hooks or HOOK loops can be easily attached to a rucksack. If you want to use your smartphone or GPS device on the go, you can opt for models with a touch function.

Our recommendation: the right models from Zanier

Our six models for via ferrata & alpine adventures were developed with professionals and are perfectly tailored to different areas of use. From family outings to north face tours - you'll find the right companion at Zanier.

The MYMOUNTAINPASSION is a real all-rounder - developed for via ferrata, bike tours or ski tours. With its robust goatskin leather palm, elastic 4-way stretch and a neoprene cuff, it is the perfect companion for demanding all-rounders. Practical: The HOOK loop makes it quickly available on your rucksack - ideal if you want to stay flexible between approach and ascent. The leather is also incredibly durable, so you'll be able to enjoy this multi-sport model for a long time.

Anyone looking for ease of use, good ventilation and minimal weight will love the ROTE TURM. Its perforated leather palm remains grippy even in the heat, while the ¾ cut ensures plenty of dexterity while still providing good protection. A glove made for fast routes, approaches and hot summer days.

If you like it more technical, the ROCK'N ROPE is the model for you. It offers plenty of grip thanks to the durable Amara palm, plus gel inserts for cushioning - perfect for intensive rope contact. The Velcro fastener on the wrist ensures a secure fit, while the HOOK loop makes transportation easy.

ROFAN stands for classic full protection. A full-finger glove that is ideal for alpine tours where you need full protection. Silicone print on the palm, an integrated carabiner and a comfortable stretch backhand make it the first choice for anyone who is out and about in demanding terrain.

We have also thought about the next generation of alpinists: the KINIGAT JUNIORS is our via ferrata glove for children aged 8 to 13. With silicone grip, breathable mesh and a secure Velcro fastener, it protects little hands without restricting mobility. The ¾ cut prevents blisters but ensures control and sensitivity.

The ADRENALIN is the ideal entry-level model for anyone who likes it uncomplicated. As a half-finger model, it offers everything you need for short, sporty climbs with its grippy Amara palm, stretch upper material and integrated carabiner.

Care & durability - how to keep your glove suitable for touring

Even robust via ferrata gloves need care. Dry them well in the air after a tour - never directly on the heater. For leather gloves such as the MYMOUNTAINPASSION, regular greasing is recommended to keep the material supple. A gentle hand wash with lukewarm water is usually sufficient - please do not use fabric softener. Tip: You can find all the details in our blog on glove care!
